What a political fiasco! What a collapse since the failed dissolution of the French National Assembly! The French President, Emmanuel Macron has accumulated so many fiascos that the surprise resignation of Sébastien Lecornu, his new Prime Minister (ex-Prime Minister!), seems almost anecdotal. For nearly a decade in power, the French head of state has painstakingly and with a doubtful success plowed through a field of political, economic, and financial fiascos. Not to mention French diplomacy, which is also a field of ruins.
With Sébastien Lecornu's resignation, everything suddenly becomes dramatically laughable given the serious political crisis the country is plunged into. This "vaudeville," masterfully composed by Macron, humiliates France and the French people.
Yes, the situation is infinitely serious, and yet, despair sometimes provokes bitter laughter! To illustrate this point, which may seem offbeat, let's keep in mind this major fact of Lecornu's incredible 27 days in Matignon: Out of the 18 names listed on the steps of the Élysée Palace, 12 were already resigning ministers from the Bayrou government and now find themselves, in a sense, resigning forever! Even the now-former Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu was resigning as Minister of the Armed Forces! This is unprecedented.
Lecornu will have achieved the unenviable feat of resigning even before the transfer of power to his ministry.
Macron is definitively alone. Will he insist on remaining at the Élysée Palace? It seems like an impossible situation. Everything is crumbling beneath his feet. A dissolution? The victory of the “Rassemblement National”? and the vote for “La France Insoumise” on the left seems inevitable. More than ever, France is becoming impossible to govern. The financial markets are the proof. Speculative attacks would force the CBE - Central Bank of Europe to intervene by lending to France, under certain conditions. This would mean placing French finances and economic policy under tutelage.
Macronism is a shipwreck.
